News from the Front Lines!

Well, looky here.

Signed onto Blogger this morning and saw the nice round 1-0-0 where it says followers.  Couldn't have come at a better time.  I took an extra day off (tomorrow) to make my long weekend extra long. The timing will give me this long weekend to get together those promised giveaways just in time for next week.

The latest news from the battlefront is that I went, food logs (with "cheat days"!) in hand, to see a nutritionist.  Just can't figure out why-oh-why my freaking weight keeps bouncing back up to 180 ( or higher!) when I feel like I'm doing things the right way.

Verbatim this is what she said:

"You are doing everything pretty much perfect.  I think you need to get your family doctor to refer you to a good Endocrinologist because some people, even when their thyroid is 'regulated' need more - they need extra help. I'm not going to be able to help you food wise any better than what you are already doing for yourself."

Well, not that I'm thrilled with the idea of adding yet another doctor to my repetoire, but it does make me feel better to know that I'm not crazy, I am doing what I can do, and it's not my doing something wrong! Honestly people, it really is more than the weight. I have not been feeling the way I think I should as someone who tries to live healthfully. So, I started doing some research on my own and pretty much found that I should not be having the sort of issues I'm dealing with (fatigue, muscle & joint aches) if my hormones were truly "fixed."

So, I am seeing my doc on June 7th and will ask for the referral then.  Stay tuned.

Do you know what Memorial Day is all about? From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May (May 31 in 2010). Formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemorates U.S. men and women who died while in the military service.[1] First enacted to honor Union soldiers of the American Civil War (it is celebrated near the day of reunification after the Civil War), it was expanded after World War I.

Plus, I found out that "Traditional Observances" include visiting cemetaries. The reason I found that so interesting is because I had already planned to take my 3 mile recovery run through our local cemetary. Our local VFW goes there and puts American Flags on every soldier's grave.  In this cemetary, there are many soliders dating back to the Civil War!  It's actually quite inspiring to see. This is something I have done every year and didn't even know I was following a tradition.  It's actually a lovely run, with no traffic and the paved roads are in excellent condition.  It's quiet and peaceful and I get a chance to run by the resting places of several of Mr. Helen's family members.  I usually stop and say hi at each place.

This may be it from me this week peeps. You know how I am about unplugging on the weekends. I have lots planned to fill this long weekend so I don't expect to write any more, though I may pop in to read :-) Plus we are supposed to have some spectacular weather and I am looking forward to having my first beach day - or days! - of the summer.

So tell me what are you doing for the Holiday Weekend?  Picnics, Barbecue?
Do you have a tradition?

Whatever it is that you are doing, hope your holiday weekend is filled with good things and that you will remember to say a little prayer or have a little thought towards a soldier who has died in service to our country.

This weekend is unfortunately, the anniversary of when we laid my mom to rest. But she is in a cemetary on a military base so she will also get a flag! Cemetaries really are nice, peaceful places.
Have a fun long weekend! See ya on the flip side!

    xoxo

  4. Woohoo, congrats on 100 PLUS followers!!!

I bet you are relieved to know that you aren't doing anything wrong with your eating...frustrating to know that your body is messed up, but hopefully the endo will figure things out so you can get the scale moving downward and feel better.

Cool about the Memorial Day tradition and your recovery run - that will be nice.

Thanks for the link to Hal's site - I will look at his training program. I need to do something but I can't involve too much math as it makes me crazy - I just need "run X distance this day" - things like that.

Have a wonderful long weekend! We plan on BBQing with our boys at their new apartment!

  5. Thanks for this post!!! I do hope that you get the answers that you need from the new doc. I can only imagine how frustrating your symptoms must be. Though cemeteries give me the willies, I think it's great that you do what you do!!! As a marines wife, I love those that truly appreciate those that have serve, especially to those who have given their lives. You're great...can I say that again?!?! Anyways...it's Memorial Day camping for me!!! Whoop whoop! Can't wait to hear about ALL that you do over this LONG BREAK!!!!!

  6. Congrats on 101 bloggy peeps and counting! It's great you went to a nutritionist who was reasonable and honest and didn't try to change up what obviously isn't broken.

I wish I could send you to my endocrinologist...she's fantastic! You'll get to the bottom of the situation. I have to wonder if change of life issues aren't impacting your hormone levels, since you're around the age where things start to shift!

Have a great Memorial Day weekend and where sunscreen, Missy! We have no traditions but will be getting together with another couple Sunday for dinner and a movie. See you in June!

  9. Your nutritionist sounds like a wise woman. She can see that there may be more going on than food can fix. Hope your new doctor gets right to the solution!

I have mixed feelings about Memorial Day weekend. It really SHOULD be a day to honor all who gave to their country. It has, however, become the gateway to Summer, the BBQ fest of all time, and the official day that white accessories come out of storage. My goal? To try to do it all!

    Unplug and enjoy!

  10. Yahoo on reaching 100 - I remember when I was afraid when I had 2 :)
Your nutritionist sounds like mine - we already know what to do, it's our bodies that can't quite get it together!!

Have a fantastic long weekend Helen! It's snowing here :(
Oh and how is the POM? I'm still waiting for my coupons...

  13. Yay for your 100th...and it is very comforting to know that you are nutritionist endorsed...that gives you one less thing to worry about so you can focus towards the other areas.

  16. I think its a great idea to meet with an endocronologist! My GP helped me with my diabetes as much as he could, until I ended up having to see a specialist, and I am so glad I did! My numbers have never been better!

My daughter graduates from high school tomorrow!! Then we are having a bit of a different bbq on Monday - I plan on marinating flank steak and we are having a taco fiesta!

    Enjoy your weekend Helen!

  17. Well what a shame you have to add another doctor to your list but congrats on having such a wonderful and balanced food plan! Once you get the rest figured out I think you have all it takes for success. That is exciting!

I usually unplug for the weekend as well and devote my time and attention to my family.

We are having a low key weekend, doing things around the house, bar-b-que in the back yard and celebrating hubbies birthday.

  18. Great number of followers! Congrats! It sucks that you have to add another doctor but how awesome that the nutritionist sees how well you're doing with your eating.

I'm in NZ so Memorial Day isn't really a thing here, we had ANZAC day which is sorta the same. Enjoy your long weekend!
