i am running into a new year

i am running into a new year

and the old years blow back

like a wind

that i catch in my hair

like strong fingers like

all my old promises and

it will be hard to let go

of what i said to myself

about myself

when i was sixteen and

twenty-six and thirty-six

even forty-six but

i am running into a new year

and i beg what i love and

i leave to forgive me

  1. That's wonderful. The lines about letting go what we said about ourselves when we were younger is especially poignant. Run Helen run!

  3. I really like this, Helen - and love how we should be continually forgiving of ourselves. I wonder what, in 10 years, I will look back on and let go?

    Happy New Year, my friend!

  11. Lovely! Could have been written by you! I knew you would know the purse I picked up - and actually as I was looking at it, I thought "if only Helen were here to tell me its a good deal!"

    Happy Monday my friend!
