Laser Focus

If you want to know how far you've come, put on your skinniest jeans and revel in the fact that you can zip them without laying down on a bed.  If you want to know how far you have to go, try on bathing suits under fluorescent lights in February.
Helen, Doing A 180

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have a goal in mind and I'm focusing on it.  When Mr. Helen and I went to St. Martin for our delayed honeymoon/Tenth Anniversary, I wore a hot pink floral dress when we went out for our anniversary dinner.  Another evening, I wore a pair of capris with a tangerine top - you know, one of those outfits that you'd only wear in a tropical location. Here I am 10 years ago wearing the capri outfit:
I look at this photo now and think "young, pretty, thin and happy!"
 I'm not sure I appreciated this back then.
I think I still have both of those outfits and if I can find them, and I want to wear them again when we go to celebrate our Twentieth.
In order to do that, I think I need to lose around 10 more pounds before April 27th.  While my weight loss has slowed down a bit I know if I focus I can reach that goal.  Refocusing over the last 12 days has been good for me and resulted in a couple more pounds coming off.  But I can do better and I plan to.
Monday I will be starting my Countdown to Vacation Challenge.  A personal challenge to get those ten pounds off and wear those tiny clothes.  I'm going to report on the blog once a week, just like I did with the Zero Excuses Challenge.  Accountability and all you know. "Fooling around February" is over and it's time to move on.
As Emily said on the Biggest Loser this week as she stood in front of a case of gorgeous pastries,  "I'm not getting anything, it's just not worth it.  You can't lose eleven pounds and eat this stuff."
Why wait until Monday?  Well, today is my birthday and the food/cake extravaganza began yesterday with the cupcakes that my co-workers gave me.  They knew I wouldn't be in the office today because Mr. Helen and I are spending the day at the Spa!!  I'm doing yoga, having a facial and a pedicure.  The package also comes with lunch and the food there is delicious - and because it's a spa, every single thing on the menu has the nutrition facts written below it.  I'll be able to make good choices at lunchtime to prepare for the rest of the day.  The spa is practically across the street from one of our big Indian casinos so we'll go over there tonight and see if I can  put some quarters in a slot machine and win enough to buy us a permanent vacation home in St. Martin.  A girl can dream, right?
Saturday is the family dinner.  I got to pick the menu and it's going to be fab:  Pesto Chicken Stuffed Shells, Tossed Green Salad, Garlic Bread, and Pecan Pie Cake with whipped cream. Good way to celebrate turning 52, I'd say!
Sunday, Mr. Helen took the day off which bascially turns my birthday into a four-day extravaganza.  You know what?  I'm not stressing at all about it and I'm going to enjoy every single minute.
So Monday.  For Sure.  Laser Focus.
  7. I was thrilled when I found some old jeans from 15 years old. It gave me something to aim for and a wonderful success when I got into them. I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and one thing that stood out for me was one guy giving another a present of a 2X teeshirt. The guy was a 6X at the time. It was something for him to focus on and he worked his ass off and one day was able to wear it.
    These are the 'little' things that are so important in maintaining our focus..
    Hope you have a great Birthday!
  8. Have a super birthday! You know, if you *really* concentrate on strength training, you will be smaller for sure by the end of April. Maybe not on the scale, but definitely in the clothes. I know you are the cardio queen, but I think you could strength train for 6 weeks!
    Enjoy the weekend!
  11. Happy birthday Helen! You have 4 fantastic days behind and in front of you. Enjoy them!
    And knowing you like I got to know you here I know you are going to stick to your challenge and get the results you want. You are one of the few persons I know who says she's going to do something and then do it too.
    For now: enjoy your birthday.
