Disheartened

November 26: I am thankful for comprehensive car insurance.

I stopped by the grocery store Friday morning to grab some Kaiser rolls for leftover turkey sandwiches.  I was in the store approximately 15 minutes total.  When I came out, someone had keyed my car from the passenger side door, over the hood and all the way down the driver's side to the taillight. While you are reading this I am at a drive-through adjustment center having the damage appraised.  Honestly, though I am very grateful for our comprehensive coverage, I am very disheartened that someone saw fit to be so disrespectful of my property and the hard work I have to do to own my car.

  1. Oh, ARGH!!! I can understand accidentally dinging the side of a car when you open your door in a crowded parking lot, but keying is such a deliberate act of aggression it is simply inexcusable. Ugh, I am so sorry! And yes, thank goodness for comprehensive insurance.

  2. That just bites! I'm so sorry you are having to deal with this. Like Kristen said, if it was a ding, stuff happens. But this? Well, someone out there is very, very troubled.

  3. You can't see it, but I am flipping off whoever did this to you! That just sucks ass. I don't know what possesses people to do such things. Hugs!

  4. Ohhhhh, that is just terrible. I am glad you have good insurance. And I am glad (this might sound weird) that you are disheartened over this event, and not disheartened over living a healthy life!

  5. Helen, I feel your pain. I once bought a brand new car in my twenties, when I had just moved to Denver. On Day 1 of ownership, parked it at Safeway to do some shopping and came out and had the same experience. Honest to God, in my state of mind that day, if the person that did it would have identified themselves (most likely a shiftless unemployed young man with too much time on their hands)I probably would have been convicted of vehicular manslaughter.

  7. I do not understand the mindset behind that act...and my only hope is that somewhere down the line, not only will karma take care of that person, but they will also see firsthand how a random act of vandalism affects someone THEY love. I'm so sorry this happened to you...and I'd be not only disheartened, but pissed off, massively!

  8. I am so bummed for you! That sucks. Thank goodness you have the comprehensive.

We had the same thing happen last week, only it looks like it was from someone backing out of a parking space and totally scraping down into the plastic on our car. No way they could have missed doing that. No note and we don't have comprehensive. So it stays that way.

  10. Such a dispicable act--so sorry! I can't comprehend those kind of actions, except to say that the person who does such a thing has serious problems. Glad you had the comprehensive, but there is no excuse for such behavior; nevertheless, it happens too often and most often to respectful people like you, Helen, who would never think of doing such a thing.

  11. people who do this sort of thing are usually people who don't know what it means to work for something. I'm sorry. This is also the reason I don't put any sort of bumper stickers on my car too...you never know who is on edge.

  12. Ugh, that just sucks! Why do people do things like that? It's not cool and it's not funny! Hope they live to regret it someday.

  13. That's terrible! You feel bad enough when there is an accident, but for someone to intentionally do that is just bad.
