Tuesday Ten

1.  I did my very first box jumps during my workout yesterday morning.  Granted I don't have an "official" box so I had to use an old Reebok step (remember step aerobics?) but it worked fine.  I did 5 sets of 10 jumps, which is harder than it sounds, especially when combined with other exercises.  I'm proud of myself!

2.  The kiddies were with Grandma Helen this weekend so went over to see them.  Our buddy Jacob has turned into a pre-teen - he's already zoning us out lol! Gracie talked us into going outside where she proceeded to show us her ability to jump her razor scooter over the curb and then got Mr. Helen to push her in the swing.  Nothing like Uncle love.

3.  I did my first full 8 hour shift at my part-time job on Sunday. In the I can't believe people category, I must have answered the phone 25 times throughout the day where the question was, "What time does the mall close today?"  I'm amazed by that because somehow they had to look up the mall phone number.  My guess is the internet which means the mall hours were probably right in front of their face.

4.  We are having a spectacular foliage season around here.  Mr. Helen and I have not had a chance to do our annual foliage drive and now I'm worried that the storms at the end of the week are going to mess up our chances by knocking the leaves off the trees.  Doesn't Mother Nature understand that I  need to go get my apple cider donut and the foliage run is my excuse?!!

5.  I took these photos when we went to the Harvest Festival at our local winery last weekend.  Once again the weather was gorgeous and we had a really fun day with friends eating snacks, sampling wines and listening to good music.  One of our friends reached under the mesh and ate a couple of the grapes which he declared delicious and sweet.  Going to be some good wine soon!

6. I was looking at a recent photo of myself the other day and realized I'm getting the old person spread.  Did you know that as you age your nose spreads out on your face and your ears get bigger. Yeah, that's happening.

7.  Had some really good luck with warranty returns lately.  Both my headlamp (that I run with) and my wireless printer died within the last month.  Finally had time to call the companies involved and because I registered the warranty, I didn't even have to provide proof of purchase.  Brand new items coming my way.

8.  You know why I need my headlamp?  Because even though I'm an "urban" runner and there are streetlights, sometimes the lights are burned out.  Sometimes there just are no lights.  And, back to that aging thing, my eyesight just isn't what is used to be in the dark.  This morning I was chugging along a one way street and thankfully a car came and illuminated a dark area for me because this is what was there:

In case you can't tell, that is the broken off metal stub of a street sign of some sort.  Thankfully crews working in the area putting in new sidewalks noticed it and tried to flag it.  But do you realize how easy it would be to trip on that thing?

9.  Speaking of running, yesterday it was 39 degrees when I went out. I ran in long pants, long sleeved shirt, vest, and light gloves.  This morning it was 62 degrees and crazily humid.  I ran in shorts and a short sleeved shirt.  Schizo weather.

10. Little Helen turns 35 today.  It's really weird when your child turns the age that you feel you are!

  1. It always surprises me when I realize how old my kids are. I don't feel old but when I catch sight of the crepey skin under my arms in the sunlight it sure brings me back to reality. I don't know about the people who call but I use the phone book when I don't know a number.

    1. They don't even distribute phone books around here any more!!

  2. I hear ya on the kids getting so old, we can no longer even pretend to be young. My oldest turned 42 this year. Thank goodness, he didn't get married until he was in his 30's and has LITTLE kids (his youngest is only 5 months old), so that keeps us both feeling younger than our years.

    1. As young as I was when I had her, Little Helen is not getting married until next year. I'm not sure how they feel about having children.

  3. We have nine grandchildren ranging in age from three to twenty-eight. The three youngest are coming to Grandma's today! It's fun, but I will be tired tonight.

I love your beautiful photos...the color is great! And Helen...I don't think you're getting the "old person's spread!" The recent photos I have seen of you are lovely.

You have been such a good role model for getting on an exercise program, and I have been nothing but lazy forever! I have recently started exercising on the treadmill. I also cancelled my gym membership because I never went. It's strange that I'm now exercising at home, but I can be a bit contrary about some things. Have a great day!

    1. Thank you for the compliment. It's nice to know I can help motivate in some area! As you know I am a home exerciser as well - every time I join a gym I don't go and end up cancelling. Find what you will do and what you like to do and guess what? You'll do it!

  4. #4. I don't even have the excuse of fall foliage this early in the season, I just want to go to Apple Hill. You know, for some fresh apples ;)

    #5. Gorgeous photos of grapes!

#10. I suspected that that was part of my problem. I don't have children as time-markers for my age, so it is hard for me to embrace my true age.

    1. I think many of us have ideas in our heads about what particular ages should look like. But so many advance have been made in medicine and health and well being in general that a 50-something today is no where near as "old" as one even just 20 years ago. I'm just going to keep believing I'm 35 and work with that!

  5. #6 - nope, never heard of that and you are beautiful!

Happy Birthday to Little Helen! What's weird is Hannah's next birthday is the age I had her - 23! She's already declared that even if she decides to have kids, it won't be until at least the age of 30 - so I'll be 54 then - still a young grandma in my book! :D

    1. I was only 36 when Little Helen graduated from high school! And here she is, probably getting married at age 36 or quite close to it.

  7. BOX JUMPS!!!!! The very thought makes me shudder. More power to you for doing them!

I love the grapes pics. Amazing purple shades!

You do not have that facial spread. I've seen it happen on men, but you are imagining things, my friend.

Can't believe Jacob and Gracie have grown so much, and holy moly, it's hard to believe your daughter is 35! I swear, where does the time go??

What time does the mall close, btw? ;)

    1. If I posted that photo you'd agree with me about the spread but no way.

The mall closes at 9 pm tonight but if you're coming wait until I'm working tomorrow ;)

  8. Box jumps are scary to me. Bravo!

John has the same thing with customers and his website. There is stuff in bold red letters and there are still the questions about that very thing. He wants to tear his hair out sometimes.

I am getting that spread, but it is in other places...

    1. Lori, I was so scared that I'd jump up and fall off but I took a couple practice hops where 1 foot landed then the other and then told myself I could do it and I did!

Yeah my spread is other places too but those are easier to camouflage than my nose on my face lol!

  9. That winery trip looks great, I would totally love to do that.

I'm using my headlamp too even though I run in my town in Winter, like you. It gives you just the extra light you sometimes need.

I love it that you are still in such a great mood, I feel like everything is going great for you at the moment which makes me very happy.
