In Like a Lion, Out Like a Tiger.

Went for my annual physical and all my medications are being changed.  My blood pressure was not good and my thyroid has whacked out again.  So, we start from scratch with new meds and higher dosages and this means I'll probably be at the doctor every 3 months in 2015.  The only good thing about it was that I started getting sick last Sunday and by the day of my appointment I had full blown sinus issues and bronchitis.  So she wrote me scrips for that as well.

I had my fourth and final birthday celebration with my sister and her fiance.  They surprised me with tickets for us all to see Sinbad.  We had a nice dinner first and then saw the show.  Oh my, he is as funny as ever and boy have I needed a laugh like that.  We laughed so much our cheeks were hurting by the time we left.

I needed that laugh because the very night we went, we were in the midst of yet another snowstorm. Because of the timing it wasn't sticking to the roads too bad thankfully since we were driving to the casino that's a half hour away from my house.  It was supposed to stop by 2 am so you can imagine my surprise when I got up the next day and not only was it snowing, it was worse than they had predicted.  We ended up with about 4 inches of snow.

And that was the first day of spring.  I had promised Mr. Helen that no matter what I was putting my Happy Spring flag up and I did.  I'm sick and tired of winter and just want it to go far, far away.  I decided I'd take a photo a week to see the progression of the snow pile.  In a week, we had enough melting that the bottom of the flag got set free and some of our grass was beginning to show up on the one end of the yard that's getting some sun now.

Well, guess what?  It snowed again here this past weekend. It showed all day long on Saturday and at first it wasn't sticking but then it did.  By the time we got up Sunday, all the areas of grass that had been starting to show were covered again.  I think it will melt down more this week but still it's maddening at this point, even if it is just a dusting.  Maddening I tell ya!

My neighbor's bike when it first started sticking

Our front yard looking down the street on Sunday morning.  Sigh...

I know it has to end, but guess what?  It's snowing here this morning.

Little Helen and her fiance came home at the last minute- yep they drove in snow - and I think we might have a ceremony venue.  They realize they procrastinated too much and now they are having to just go ahead and make decisions.  I'm just glad it looks like we're moving on!

I've also moved on a surprise 60th Birthday Party for Mr. Helen.  It has come together really well down to me being able to get his favorite DJ.  It has been nice to take out my not-being-able-to-plan-a-wedding frustrations on his party.  I'm having it outside the house and it will be catered so really my biggest decision is how to decorate.  Fun times!

I'm still sick today - a week later.  Because it has been in my chest, I haven't been running.  I know I'm sick because I haven't even wanted to exercise.  But really, I am ready to feel better. I think it's entirely possible that I had a bit of a relapse over the weekend, since Fiance Helen came in and he was sick and then Mr. Helen started coughing and guffawing and snorting and all the lovely stuff that goes with getting a cold as well. Clorox and Lysol are our best friends right now.  I need spring to come so we can open the windows and air the house out!

  1. We've had a rainy, wet, yucky last couple of months, but when I look at your snow at this time of year, I can't even go there in comparison. I love your Happy Spring flag peeking out of the snow...your act of defiance against the weather is duly noted and appreciated! ;)

Sinbad - I haven't thought of him in years! Did he wear a ballooney-striped suit? LOL, that's the last image I have of him.

Hope all that sickness goes away, and you get your thyroid back on track.

Oh, and I'm so glad to hear that the betrothed couple are finally planning their wedding - geez! At least you are getting to do your thing with Mr. Helen's party - love that you're having it catered. I know the decorations will be spectacular - that's your forte!

    1. Funny that you say that about Sinbad's pants! That's exactly the picture my sister had of him (and also why her friends were making fun of her for going to see him) but he was just in jeans and a shirt. Clothing aside, he is hysterically funny. Go see him if he ever comes your way. He must, because he mentioned Texas in his opening riff about our stupid snow.

  2. I am sorry you are sick. Nothing like spring crud on top of a non-spring month. Hope that goes away ASAP!

We had sun yesterday, even though it was only 40 degrees. It felt really nice. Now it is snowing again today and my flower show is just a memory.

    1. I was wondering this morning, if Mr. Helen and I keep sneezing on each other, will it EVER go away? Maybe it's just gonna hang around like this winter has.

It was gorgeous and sunny here yesterday too and it seems it might be slowing warming up even though we had that dumb snow this morning.

  3. I feel for you guys up North, we escape winter to Florida a few weeks ago but my daughter is still home and she was saying they got a ton of the white stuff last night and this morning. We are returning home in 3 weeks, please, please someone start a heather :)

I'm really surprise to find out you have blood pressure problem, I would think with running it would be improve.

My wife has also problem with her Thyroid, our doctor increased her dosage last time we saw him... maybe they (the doctors) are getting bigger commission on increasing the dosage! LOL He was telling us that in the 1960, doctors were prescribing Synthroid for people to loose weight!

From my personal experience, there is only 2 thing for someone with a bad flue: Lots of rest and wine :)

  4. Sorry you are sick. We left for Florida on the 12th, and I got a sinus infection a couple of days before that. I called for a prescription while I was gone, and my primary care doc called in a prescription to a drugstore in Florida, and I felt much better within a couple of days. We haven't had as much snow here in MN as you have had, so I'm sorry that you've been so buried this year. However, we did get more than 12 inches last week. I'm hoping that warmer temps will get rid of it by week's end. These winters of the past two years have been almost intolerable. The good thing is that spring is on its way, and I can't wait!

  5. Okay here I thought you had been to a Disney musical LOL but then I read your and Shelley's comment and realized there is an artist called Sinbad too. Hasn't he been in some movies too?

All that snow would make me depressed too but I always try to look at the bright side: you have some fun things planned for the future with the wedding and the birthday party, definitely things to look forward too.

Hope you are feeling better by now.

  6. LOL @ Fran's comment about a Disney musical. What a fun way to celebrate your birthday.

Well, I hope your new medicine works, and I hope you can get over your colds/flu, and I hope you will get some sunshine!!

The birthday party sounds super duper!!

  7. Now the only snow is the huge giant piles at the grocery store parking lot, otherwise I can now see my grass again - we should be in the upper 50s so hopefully in the next week or so all the snow will melt. I am with you - this winter seems like it will never end! Hooray on them finally making some decisions about the wedding! :D
